The debut feature from celebrated veteran Senegalese filmmaker Ousmane Sembène tells the story of a young girl from Dakar who is duped into working as a domestic in France. The film’s French title directly refers to her, ‘la noire’, being ‘owned’ by her employer, and Black Girl features many of the political themes affecting African society which Ousmane Sembène explored throughout his lengthy career.  This screening will be accompanied by Ousmane Sembène’s short film Borom Saret.

This screening is introduced by freelance film educator, Roy Stafford.
