This harrowing and incredibly personal account of Pol Pot’s Cambodia uses miniature clay figures and archive footage to explore memory and trauma. Having chronicled the horrors of Pol Pot’s regime in documentaries such as S-21: The Khmer Rouge Killing Machine (2003), director Rithy Panh returns to the subject that haunts his work. This deeply-felt and original film presents his own childhood years, endured in various Khmer Rouge labour camps where his family perished. The Missing Picture won the Un Certain Regard prize at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.
