Wednesday 11 March, 6 – 8pm in C1.18, Ellen Wilkinson Building

University of Manchester.

Filmmaking in and around North Africa
is an artsmethods@manchester-funded initiative that aims to screen a series of five films from the broad geographical region of North Africa. In each session, an academic that specialises on a particular country in North Africa will introduce a feature-length film and host a post-screening discussion. The overarching themes of gender and sexuality, religion, music and transnationalism will be explored. The film screenings are open to undergraduates, postgraduates and academic staff.

The first film in the series is a Franco-Chadian co-production entitled A Screaming Man (Mahamat-Saleh Haroun 2010), which focuses on the daily existence of a man and his family during the civil war in Chad.

There will be a wine reception and short discussion with Monika Kukolova after the film.

Please contact Kaya ( or Monika ( if you would like to attend or have any further questions.

We hope to see you there!
