Working with French 2015
Wed 11 November 2015 – 2.30pm-5pm
@ Alliance Française de Manchester – 3rd floor, 55 Portland Street, M1 3HP, Manchester
At this career-enhancing workshop, organised in collaboration with the University of Manchester School of Arts, Languages and Cultures, speakers from a range of backgrounds will offer careers advice and present some of the professional opportunities open to graduates with French-language skills. The workshop’s goal is to broaden the horizons of those present, helping them look beyond the more obvious sources of work for graduates with French.
The event should provide inspiration and encouragement for students of French thinking about what they might do after their studies, and for those who speak French and wish to use their language skills at work. It is open to the public, and all are very welcome to attend.
– Scott Foley, a careers consultant at the University of Manchester, will talk about the ways in which French graduates have made direct professional use of their language skills, and he will share his data with you;
– Tobias Colbourne, a University of Manchester graduate who is now an English teacher in Belgium
– Two University of Manchester final-year students will share their experience of working in France during their year abroad, focusing on their linguistic needs when they began working with French, what went well, whether certain skills needed improvement and if conversational and/or written French was needed.
4-5pm: Questions & Answers + opportunity for networking (refreshments provided) – handouts on writing a CV and preparing for a job interview available
Free – Open to all
